OVERVIEW

Designed a warehouse picking mobile application for clients using ERPNext as a database for the warehouse

  • As our company diversified, we aimed to conceptualize and develop our own product using ERPNext.

  • Currently, our warehouse partners store all data on ERPNext, but the item picking process (the process of picking items from a warehouse to pack and ship to customers) is external and not connected to the ERPNext module, causing delays for customers.

  • To address this, we plan to integrate the picking process with ERPNext and create a streamlined product.

THE SOLUTION

  • Log in with your organization ID

  • Browse through pick lists and choose from new, ongoing and completed pick lists

  • View picker metrics to keep track of efficiency

  • View and browse through items in pick list

  • Scan and set location, scan the barcode of items to confirm "picking"

  • View item details

REQUIREMENTS GATHERING & USER FLOW CREATION

Warehouse pickers should easily navigate to pick the right items for orders

  • I collaborated with the managerial team to understand the item picking process and created a user flow.

  • To inform my design, I examined existing warehouse picking apps to analyze their user flows.

  • Interestingly, they had developed a similar flow, which validated my understanding.

  • I also proposed incorporating user metrics such as pick rate and pick time, as well as potential features like an interactive map.

Proposed User Flow

  • After discussions, the team realized that pickers would also have to verify the location before scanning the items - therefore, the scanning process would occur twice.

LO-FI WIREFRAMES & REVIEW SESSIONS

Need to understand technicalities and requirements at the client’s end as well

  • Once the user flow was established, I began brainstorming various feature ideas.

  • After discussing these with the managerial team, they noted that integrating an interactive map would be challenging due to the need for comprehensive knowledge of the industry layout and key touchpoints.

  • Consequently, I shifted my focus to more feasible features that could enhance the user experience without this complexity.

BUILDING DESIGN SYSTEM & HI-FI WIREFRAMES

5 iterations and 14 designs later

  • In order to give an industrial-esque feel while keeping the branding of our company's logo, the primary color was chosen to be Jackson Purple.

Design System

  • As I built out the wireframes and had discussions with the managerial team, we realized that those working at warehouses may not necessarily speak English and we would have to think of this complexity as well.

  • Therefore, I focused on incorporating more iconography, allowing the pickers to rely less on text and making the interface more intuitive, rather than depending solely on language accessibility settings.

  • The design process is currently in progress at the company.
